Deputy Head

An exciting opportunity to join our school community in the new role of Deputy Head has arisen following the promotion to Headship of a member of the school's Leadership Team. 

Responsible for the academic management of the school, you will be passionate about learning and teaching. A skilled practitioner in your own right, in this new role and at a very stimulating time in the (almost) 100 year history of St Hugh's you will have the scope to develop the curriculum and to direct the academic strategy at an excellent Prep School. In return, you will be supported in your own professional development in a buoyant and successful environment. As the post holder will have a significant degree of autonomy in shaping the future academic direction of the school, the successful candidate will ideally have school leadership experience, have led whole school initiatives in a similar school, and have aspirations for developing their own leadership in the future. 

As the Deputy Head at St Hugh's you will be a crucial part of a committed team dedicated not just to the school but also to the wider community of the village of Woodhall Spa, as well as the whole county. With children joining us from all over Lincolnshire, St Hugh's occupies an enviable position as a 13 plus Prep School for day pupils and boarders, preparing children for entry to some of the country's best schools. 

From Early Years to Year 8, our educational philosophy provides enviable opportunities to all of our children and we encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning through our innovative Visible Learning programme. The successful candidate will work closely with a dedicated Leadership Team, lead a talented and passionate group of teachers and will be determined to emulate and build on the "Excellent" ISI report from the last inspection where our children were identified as having the "confidence to explore" as well as being able to work collaboratively, confidently and with resilience. Leading the academic team to develop pupils described by ISI as confident, articulate and expressive is the core purpose of this role, as is fulfilling our stated aim of developing our children's potential. 

The main responsibilities of the Deputy Head include: 

  • Deputising in the Head’s absence. 
  • Playing a key role within the School Leadership Team and making a vital contribution to the future development of the school. 
  • Being responsible for the day to day management of the school and manages the School Calendar and day to day routine 
  • Driving Academic Strategy and Development and line managing Heads of Department. 
  • In conjunction with HoDs, continuing to develop the school’s Visible Learning Programme to become a centre of excellence in learning 
  • Overseeing Reports, Grades, Data and Assessment at all levels including CATS, INCAS and their equivalents  
  • Overseeing arrangements for school events and school trips, in particular staffing. 
  • Overseeing Compliance and ISI coordination, working with the SLT to ensure compliance, using external support as required. 
  • Being a member of Health and Safety Committee 
  • Supporting the work of the Site Manager as one of the school’s Fire Marshals in the event of a drill or an emergency event. 
  • Overseeing and managing Staff Development and Appraisal, supported by the SLT.

Assistant Site Manager

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Site Manager to support our Site Manager and be part of our school community.

Part-time: 20 hours per week (precise shape of these to be determined) - for example this could be five mornings of four hours. The role is term-time only (35 weeks per year) plus five weeks during school holidays by negotiation to assist with site preparation before and after each school term.

Salary: £8,000-£12,000 per year

The requirements of the post are:

  • Basic Minibus Maintenance (levels, tyres, cleaning etc)
  • Acting as relief minibus driver when the need arises and provide short notice cover, e.g. in the event of absence
  • Support the Site Manager with safety checks on a regular basis
  • Act as Fire Marshall when on site
  • Support with site maintenance, including grounds
  • Liaise with contractors on site and assist with the overall condition of the site.

This list is not exhaustive and the final job description will be determined by the Site Manager and the successful candidate.

Minibus Driver

Approximately 14.5 hours per week (TBC), term time - 35 weeks per year

Salary: £9.20 per hour

Our school minibus service covers the whole of Lincolnshire, leaving from Woodhall Spa and travelling on various routes to Skegness, Lincoln, Sleaford, Boston, Market Rasen and Louth. The successful applicant must be qualified to drive a minibus and also be skilled in working with children. A front-facing and public role, the drivers are our travelling ambassadors for the school. There are two runs daily on four days, morning and evening, and one morning run on a Wednesday. Additional hours are available for supporting transport to school trips or airport runs and a flexible approach is much valued.
