Kitchen Assistant

Part-time | Term-time | School-based

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our school catering team. The post will start in September 2026 so early applications are encouraged.

The successful candidate will support the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to prepare and serve nutritious school meals for pupils and staff while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Working Hours

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 11:00–17:30.
  • Wednesday: 11:00–18:00.
  • Additional hours: 32 hours for the annual kitchen deep clean during the summer holidays, preferably during the week before the school returns in late August.
  • Successful candidates will need to have the ability to support evening functions (eg staffing refreshments at school concerts or productions). Approximately 6 occasions per year.
  • Salary: £12.71 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily vegetable preparation and other basic food preparation tasks.
  • Assist with the service of school meals to pupils and staff.
  • Complete kitchen washing-up duties and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • Contribute to the weekly cleaning schedule and ensure cleaning duties are completed to the required standard.
  • Assist dining room staff when required.
  • Support the service of match teas at the school pavilion during sporting fixtures.
  • Participate in the annual kitchen deep clean during the summer holidays.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable, organised and able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Flexible and willing to assist wherever required.
  • Friendly and professional when working with pupils, staff and colleagues.
  • Comfortable working in a busy school kitchen environment.

Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or similar role would be advantageous, although training will be provided where appropriate.
