Oakham Orchestra Day
Six of our budding musicians took a trip to Oakham for their annual Prep School Orchestra Day. The theme of the day was “Magic and Mystery”!
Pupils experienced playing and rehearsing as part of a large ensemble, working on composition techniques using improvisation and got their first taste of electroacoustic composition by creating a soundscape on various electronic instruments. They were particularly fond of the theremin (of Doctor Who Theme fame)!
As they always do, the children conducted themselves with respect and professionalism, rose to the challenges and excelled!
The afternoon concert featured debut performances of their compositions, as well as pieces played by the massed orchestra, including “Chronicles of Narnia”, “The Addams Family” and “Doctor Who”.
