Match Report
It was great to host an U9 Tennis Fixture on Wednesday afternoon in association with Tattershall Tennis Club. We are very fortunate to have this club so close by where many of our pupils attend twice weekly hobby sessions. A team of eight players made up the St Hugh’s team consisting of Charlie, Ralph, Freddie S, William, Hugo (Year 4), Otto, Bertie (Year 3) and Zachary (Y1!). All of these boys have committed to tennis this season and it was great to see them in action competing for St Hugh’s.
The afternoon saw players being divided across three courts to play in a doubles round robin tournament. Unfortunately LMS could only bring four players but this allowed an additional two St Hugh’s players to get involved.
On Court 1, Ralph and Charlie faced tough competition against some quite accomplished players. Despite this, they played extremely well and held their first opponents (LMS) to a tie break. They battled hard but lost 7-5. They went on to beat Burton Hathow, with some great shots being played against a well established county player. Burton Hathow went on to win their match against LMS in a tie break which made it all level with each pair winning a match.
On Court 2, William and Freddie S worked well together to take two wins in the initial round robin. As the boys warmed up, there were some super rallies and they demonstrated good knowledge of the doubles game. Following this, they moved up a court and took on some stronger sides. They really came into their own and it was great to see them coping well with this step up. Some great tennis!
On Court 3, we had two St Hugh’s pairs competing against one another as well as the Burton Hathow side. Otto and Hugo worked well together to secure a win against the Burton Hathow pair. There were some great calls by Otto, who displayed very good knowledge of the game. The boys had a tougher match against their own teammates, Bertie and Zachary who went on to win both their games to secure a win on Court 3. A special mention to our Year 1 tennis extraordinaire, Zachary, who is a force to be reckoned with! There were some great rallies and points scored between them, with some super returns by Bertie.
Well done to all players and thank you to Tattershall Tennis Club for a great afternoon of sport.
