Tudor Day at Burghley House

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Burghley House to step back in time and learn all about life in Tudor times.

Our day began with a fascinating session on Tudor medicine. The children discovered some of the unusual remedies and treatments used during the Tudor period – and were reassured that our Tudor medicine expert was definitely not a witch!

The children then split into two groups to explore different aspects of Tudor life. They learnt all about Tudor food and had the opportunity to discover more about the impressive kitchens at Burghley House, finding out how food was prepared for such a grand household.

After a well-earned packed lunch on the lawn, the children headed inside to tour the magnificent house. Along the way, they discovered more about life in Tudor times and even had the chance to learn about some rather gruesome Tudor games – including one involving execution (not really though)!

To finish the day, the children were introduced to the Pavane, a traditional Tudor dance. There were some very impressive Tudor dancing skills on display!

It was a wonderful day of history, discovery and hands-on learning, bringing our Tudor topic to life in a truly memorable setting. The children represented the school brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed their journey back in time.
