U10 Mixed Hockey v Highfields (H-HHC) 2.15pm
Match Report
Result: 2-1 Win 4-4 Draw
It was a great game for the U10s, with players from St Hugh’s stepping in to help Highfields, making it a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get plenty of game time and experience playing together. We also rotated the two goalkeepers between St Hugh’s and Highfields, giving both keepers the chance to play outfield as well as in goal. The rotation of substitutes worked really well throughout the match, with everyone getting involved and contributing to the team.
There was some excellent hockey on display, particularly with our passing and use of the width. The players did a great job of moving the ball around, finding space and looking to play through and around the opposition rather than forcing the play.
We were rewarded with two well deserved goals, with Joseph and Anna both getting on the scoresheet. It was great to see the players creating opportunities and working together to get forward. One area we can continue to work on is supporting the attack by pushing up the pitch with our teammates. At times, we had players getting forward with the ball but not enough support arriving behind them. Moving up together will give the player in possession more options and help us keep the pressure on when we're attacking.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable game with lots of positives to take away. The teamwork, passing, use of width and willingness to rotate positions were all excellent to see. Well done to everyone who played and contributed, a great team effort!
