A Team
Result: 5-1 W
After a slightly frenetic start where we did not really click fully into gear, we started to get concerned that we were not converting the chances that were coming our way. An almighty scramble in the Witham area somehow did not end up with a goal, but thankfully Edward B looped in a splendid shot from range past their agile keeper to break the deadlock and deservedly put us in front just before half time. In the second half we passed a little more freely and looked classy switching play from wing to wing. More clear cut chances opened up for us and we took full advantage this time. George ran in virtually unopposed to score twice, emphatically, and James capped a dominant performance with a couple of expertly taken goals too. At the back, Sam read the game brilliantly and thwarted attacks as and when called upon - he is not that keen on playing in defence but he does so for the team’s sake and he deserves great credit for his efforts there. Rory marauded down the right wing with purpose and put in some telling crosses, whilst in goal Alastair looked secure and distributed the ball carefully.
B Team
Result: 1-9 L
It was soon evident that the B team was going to have a tricky afternoon. Witham Hall had a couple of quite skilful and fast players and took control of the game. We competed hard and I was impressed with the energy and commitment shown by Edward J, Rory P and Josh F both in the tackling and when trying to attack. By half time we were 4-0 down. Seb took over from Callan in goal in the second half and did have one highlight when he saved a penalty by pushing the shot on to the crossbar! We did get onto the scoresheet in the second half but the final score was 9-1. A good effort against a strong team.
