Match Report

Red Team:  5-3 W LMS - 7-6 W WSB

This afternoon we welcomed Wisbech and Lincoln Minster for a triangular fixture. The Red team had 5 players today which meant each got to play every quarter playing and four rotations.
First, we played Lincoln Minster and the game started strong. Tallulah and Gen were super in defence, Olivia and Harriet worked well as shooters and Coco used her skills to support attack and defence. After the first half St Hugh’s were up by two goals. After a quick rotation the girls readjusted to new positions and pairings and worked well to navigate the ball to goal. There was some super movement from all. The game ended 5-3 and Coco was awarded the opposition's player.
Next the girls played Wisbech and had another rotation. It was great to see the girls playing together and supporting each other on court. Olivia had some fantastic shots at goal and St Hugh’s went into halftime with a 4-1 up. With a final rotation Wisbech came back strong and the girls had to up their whole court defence. The goals continued from both sides with the game ending in a close win 7-6 to St Hugh’s. Genevieve was awarded opposition player. Well done girls, you did incredibly well!

Navy Team:  7-1 W LMS - 6-3 W WGS

It was a great afternoon for the U11 Navy team who faced LMS and WGS in a triangular fixture on home soil.  The squad was made up of Rosie and April as our two Year 6 players and Hetty, Annabelle, Verity and Faith as Year 5’s. I thought this combination worked well and the girls worked hard for one another, becoming more familiar with their roles and responsibilities in their respective positions. With a squad of six, there was a good amount of court time with all players getting a minimum of three quarters today giving them exposure to at least three positions on court. Annabelle B worked tirelessly in her role as GK and GD, winning a number of turnovers which led to some super counter-attacks. Faith worked in similar fashion and learned to slow down play and consider her options as the ball carrier. Rosie really grew in confidence and became more adept at timing her runs off the ball. It was great to see her score the opening goal and she was very well supported by Lincoln City player, Hetty. Hetty’s movement today was very pleasing and it was good to see her having the confidence in the shooting circle and racking up a number of goals against WGS in the final quarter! April put in her usual shift, demonstrating great work rate on court. She also added to the score sheet in her role as GA. Verity enjoyed having a turn as Captain this week and demonstrated super movement on court. She is definitely growing in confidence as the season progresses and it was fabulous to watch her reading the game and offering good options for the ball carrier. Verity also managed to contribute to the scoreline this week. Overall a real team effort from St Hugh’s. Well done to all players!

Purple Team:  9-0 W LMS - 5-1 W WGS

The Purple team played very well together, it was great to watch! Emily made some excellent shots at goals with Agatha feeding the ball into the circle with some speedy balls. Maddie was amazing in defence, making some great interceptions, being able to read the passes and time her runs. Olivia also was very good at shooting, performing some great drives into the circle, managing to lose her defender. Tara got player of the match in both games, earning this by her excellent defending and marking her player. Tara was also great at getting into space on the court and making some great passes to her teammates. I was very proud of the team and their excellent skills shown in the game!
