Match Report

A Team

Result: St Hugh's 295 LMS 267

On Wednesday, the U11 softball team welcomed LMS for a lively and competitive fixture. LMS batted first, and our team impressed with some fantastic fielding. Miles and Penelope both took excellent catches, swiftly removing batters and keeping the opposition under pressure. The whole team showed great awareness in the field, picking the ball up quickly and returning it to the bowler with real pace and accuracy.
When it came to our turn to bat, Miles and Edward hit the ground running, putting on a strong partnership and racking up an impressive 28 runs between them. The team maintained a consistent run rate, building a steady lead.
The final score saw St Hugh’s finish ahead with 295 runs to LMS’s 267 – a brilliant team effort all round. Well done, everyone!

B Team

Result: Won by 100 runs

A lovely sunny afternoon welcomed us to Lindum Sports ground (even though it was a little windy). The team was fantastic throughout both innings. Lincoln Minster had more players which meant 2 pairs got to bowl and the other 2 pairs got to bat twice. Joshua and Paul were up first to bowl and they got the team off to a great start with a wicket, Annebelle and Henrietta were up next and they both took wickets and with some dot balls which stopped LMS from scoring. Olivia A and Tara came up to bowl next and again took a wicket. Finally Geneiveve and Arabella were bowling and with further wickets and not many runs scored limited LMS. For the last 2 pairs, looking at their bowling figures Paul, Joshua, Annabelle and Henrietta were chosen to bowl again. They all kept their bowling tight and took further wickets which limited LMS to 145 runs.
The team's batting was excellent and backed up their bowling performance. Paul and Joshua started off really well with getting some boundaries and scoring 33 off their 2 overs. Annabelle and Henrietta followed up with hitting a couple of 6's and scoring 18 off their two overs. Up next was Olivia and Tara unfortunately there were a few wide balls in the first 2 overs but in their next two both girls were getting boundaries and scoring 63 runs off 4 overs. For the final four overs of the match came Genevieve and Arabella. Both girls were eager to run and were stealing runs on some loose fielding. They both got boundaries which ended the match with St Hughs scoring 245 runs. This was a brilliant match to watch and umpire all children played extremely hard and did the school proud. Excellent work team.

C Team

Result: Won by 25 runs

Another super performance from the team who ended up victorious versus Lincoln Minster, winning by 25 runs. Again, it was a victory based on tight fielding, bowling and excellent batting. The running between the wickets ticked the scoreline along. What was even more impressive was the team spirit as they supported each other, with Emily as Captain directing operations on the pitch. 2 innings, so everyone batted twice and some good solid strikes saw a number of boundaries including a majestic 6.  Our main strike bowler was Edward P, who turned his arm well and made the opposition work for every run they scored. Supporting him were Agatha, Maddie and Rosie, with Olivia, Emily and Florence the main hitters totting up a very creditable score between them. Credit to everyone who played, including the opposition for a very enjoyable afternoon’s cricket. There is pressure on places across the teams, for sure, and many of them want to continue to progress to have a go at hardball which is great to see. Well done everyone and have a great half term.
