Match Report
Result: L 93 - 143
On arrival, we were faced with a team in whites and a large bag of pads and helmets but, once the initial negotiation had been done and the style of match confirmed, we then progressed to a very hot game of incrediball cricket. This was a great chance to play with a ball which moves more quickly and also takes more skill to catch than an orange softball. Unfortunately, it also takes more control when bowling so, as a result, the top scorer for the the opposition was the extras column. A real lesson there in the importance of bowling accuracy, as wides and no balls count for 2 runs and there were lots of them! Some sharp fielding kept the deficit down but St Hugh’s allowed Witham to score a challenging total and left themselves a lot of work to do with the bat. In they went and acquitted themselves well - with a few easy wickets falling, the total in the end was admirable but just not quite enough. It has been a great season though in terms of engagement, participation and enjoyment and I am sure has produced a strong foundation for next year. Well done, everyone.
