Match Report

The U10/11 girls travelled to Stamford on Wednesday for a festival. Each team played a minimum of four matches which allowed for rotations and new combinations to be shown. We are so proud of the girls for their teamwork today. Below are individual reports for each team.

Red - The red team started their afternoon of fixtures playing Peterborough. The game was strong with passes moving well down the court. Hetty controlled the ball as centre (C) and was able to support both Penelope and Coco in attack and Genevieve and Harriet. Penelope and Coco worked well in the shooting D and Penelope scored 3 goals for St Hugh’s ending the match with a 3-1 win. Penelope was given opposition's player of the match. Game two was against Spratton Hall and after a rotation this saw Faith and Hetty in defence, Penelope in C and Genevieve and Harriet in attack. The girls focus for this game was short, sharp drives towards the ball. There were some super defensive turnovers and shooter to shooter work. Harriet scored 2 goals and Genevieve 1. St Hugh’s finished this game with a 3-0 win and Penelope was chosen as opposition player of the match. The third match was against Brooke Priory and this was our toughest game. Faith and Hetty were shooting, Harriet was in C and Coco and Penelope in defence. Harriet was rapid around the court making some super intercepts. The game was fast and we needed to remember to take a breath and play at our own speed. The girls held their own but the game ended in a 1-0 loss. Coco was awarded opposition player. The final match of the tournament was against Stamford. Coco and Penelope were in attack, Faith in C and Harriet and Genevieve in defence. The girls worked incredibly hard to play their own game and apply all the skills we had talked about today. It was fantastic to see the ball moving down the court with fluidity and speed. The match ended with a 6-0 win with both Penelope and Coco scoring 3 goals each. Coco was awarded opposition player. A busy afternoon of netball but another positive result. Well done girls!

Navy - The team started out very strong, with April as C working the ball down the court with her excellent passing to Annabelle as GD, who made some great interceptions! Olivia A displayed her amazing shooting throughout the tournament, scoring goals from the edge of the circle! Emily also made some impressive shots and showed some great drives towards the ball. Florence became good at sticking on her player, turning the possession Of the ball many times, whilst Agatha demonstrated her strong passes to her teammates, passing in front of her players! The girls worked so well together, showing what they had learnt in training pays off!

Purple - The Purple team had a successful afternoon, captained this week by Arabella. They played a total of five matches facing teams from Brooke Priory, Spratton Hall, two sides from Stamford and Peterborough. With a squad of six players, the girls had ample opportunity to rotate positions, playing in all areas of the court. We began the afternoon rather quiet but became more confident driving towards the ball and communicating with our teammates. There was some super shooting, with lots of goals scored! Verity impressed me with some strong passes down court and good stable landings. Tallulah showed good athleticism on court, winning a number of turnovers for the team. Arabella learnt to slow down a little and make use of her four seconds on the ball. She began to time her pass more effectively checking that the receiving player was balanced and ready. Rosie worked hard to mark her opponent, denying them time and space. Olivia B got some good interceptions and became more confident and snatching that ball on a 50:50. Maddie made some pleasing drives and worked hard to support her teammates. Overall, a great team effort with 3 wins, one 1-0 loss and a draw. Well done to all players.
