U9 Report

The Year 4 girls travelled to Ranby on Wednesday to play in their first rounders match of the season.  Having had a couple of games sessions prior to this, the team were well prepared and full of anticipation.  Following a glorious first week back, the British weather did of course disappoint, with the April showers forcing us to play indoors! This did not dampen our spirits and we had a very enjoyable match despite this.  Beth captained the team this week and rightly opted to field first.

Although a little quiet in the field initially, St Hugh's clearly has a good grasp of the the rules and tactical play.  We worked well as a team and began to communicate more as the game progressed.  We managed to prevent any scoring from the Ranby side until the 12th ball which was super!  Ruby made a fantastic catch as well, declaring the first batter out.  We continued to limit their scoring and managed to stump another four players out in the first innings.  St Hugh's went into bat confident that they could exceed a score of 3 with Beth opening.  It was a super start with Beth scoring a rounder on the 1st ball.  Freya, Penny and Hattie also contributed to the scoreline with half a rounder on their first bat.  Beth yet again scored another rounder, followed by Ruby, Freya, Phoebe and Hattie scoring half.  As number 1 batter, Beth was bowled the final ball scoring a further half.

The second innings was reduced due to time with 11 good balls being bowled. Ranby hit the ball well on a number of balls, scoring a further 2 rounders to take their final score to 5.  At this stage, St Hugh's had already won the game but we were keen to go back into bat for our second innings.  With some lovely batting by Beth, Ruby and Freya, we scored a further 3 rounders in the first 3 balls! Annabel also secured half a rounder for reaching 2nd.  This took out score to 11 and we were delighted to win the game 11-5.  A great first performance by the U9 team!  Well done to all players.
