A Team

Result: 0-0 D 0-2 L

After two cancelled matches due to the weather it was great to play our first Hockey match this season. Our first game was against Wisbech where we quickly got into our stride and played some impressive passing hockey. Vinnie in goal had very little to do but we had a number of good shots on goal, forcing their goalkeeper into some good saves. Gio, Beau, Freddie and George C all went close to scoring. We also won some short corners and I was impressed with how we played them.
The second match was against Copthill who had a couple of very skillful forwards who created some goalscoring opportunities. Despite this George P, Edward and Ralph defended well and Vinnie made some great saves in goal. Copthill did score 2 goals, but we also had chances to score ourselves. A really impressive first hockey game of the season.

B Team

Result: 4-0 L 6-0 L

St Hugh’s B travelled to Wisbech for their first fixtures of the half term. They approached the game with great enthusiasm looking forward to putting some of their practice into action. The games provided a steep learning curve for all the players. St Hugh’s defended well with some fantastic saves by William in goal. Unfortunately he could not keep them all out and some strong attacking play saw Wisbech come out on top in the first game. The second game was an improvement from an attacking point of view. St Hugh’s moved the ball around better, spreading the ball out wide to the wings. This gave some opportunities for shots on goal. Some break away attacks and strong crossing by Copthill gave them the result. St Hugh’s B had some good spells of play that they should be proud of, we build on this for next week and come back stronger. Well done to all the players.
