Result: Lost, Witham Hall 186-2, St Hugh's 95-6
A tough end of season game for us in the heat at Witham. They batted first and though we restricted their run-rate to begin with, a combination of dropped catches and inconsistent fielding let their batters settle and put together a big innings total. Highlights from our time in the field revolved around Rory P - he skittled over the opener’s wicket in his second over, and later caught the other opener on the boundary from Rory S’s bowling. With a huge total to reach our aim was to get our batters settled in, protect our wicket then try to speed up the scoring rate. Unfortunately, Rory S received a peach of a delivery which nipped back off the pitch to bowl him, and was out early on. James was unlucky to nick an inside edge onto the stumps. We then rallied somewhat, with Rory P timing shots well and picking up several boundaries, ably partnered by Josh N, who must receive the award for ‘Most Unfortunate Dismissal of the Season’! Josh was dutifully backing up when Rory fired a half-volley straight back down the pitch. The bowler then unintentionally deflected the ball onto the stumps with Josh stranded. Rory P finally succumbed, and was bowled after missing a full toss for a superb 30. George C, Ellis and Edward B all added some more runs but the total proved too big to overhaul. A battling performance to end our season - well played boys.
