U13 Hockey v Lindum HC (A) 6.30pm
The girls travelled to Lindum Hockey Club for their final game of the season. This was a floodlit evening fixture allowing parents the easier opportunity to support their daughters.
The team was set up as had become the norm over the season and they were particularly efficient with their regular substitutions to keep fresh legs on the pitch. Lilian was very effective on the right wing getting around the outside of the defenders, Agetha in goal was moving forwards to close down any incursion into our D and Lulu and Coco were solid with their tackles. It was 5 minutes before Lindum scored their first and then another 5 with a thunderbolt hit from the edge of the D. St Hugh’s were still very competitive and their quick selfpasses and movement was causing Lindum problems. Lindum scored a third before half time from a short corner.
In the second half we were on the front foot and broke into their D on many more occasions than they did into ours. It was then a challenge to be able to find a way past the quality Lindum keeper. There were numerous chances but we were unable to just get the ball over the line. As Lindum only managed a single goal in the second half it shows our improvement across the game.
After the game we were well hosted at the Lindum Club with pizzas for the girls and refreshments for the parents. Following the match tea were end of season awards and Captain Tabitha gave her thanks.
It’s been an enjoyable term of entertaining, well fought hockey in both training and at the matches. I look forwards to all the girls continuing their hockey journey both in and out of school. This is especially so for our Year 8 girls of Captain Tabitha, defending stalwart Lulu and energetic winger Camilla.
