Match Report

Result: Lost 117 for 4 v 41 for 14

The final game of the season for the U13 Softball A Team was away at Wellow and it was a demonstration of how not to bat!

We lost the toss and were put into bat.

Our first pair of Sophie and Brandon scored 17 for the loss of 1 wicket in their 4 overs and Sophie hit one 4.

Poppy W and Imogen were next to the crease and they scored 7 for the loss of three wickets, two bowled and a run out, but Poppy did hit a 4.

Our third pair of Poppy H and Florence scored 6 for the loss of 4 wickets, three were caught and one bowled; both girls hit 4s.

Raul and William were in next and scored 9 for the loss of 3 wickets all in the same over, two bowled and a run out.

Charlotte and Sam were the last pair and they scored 2 for 3. Two bowled and a catch. Both players hit 4s.

We, as a team, were guilty of going out swinging baseball style and not defending our wicket, 70 runs were lost due to losing wickets and this was going to cost us.

Wellow passed our total in 6 out of the 20 overs and they finally scored 117 for 4. We actually bowled and fielded well as a team but the game had already passed us by. Imogen got a wicket bowled, William got 2 with a catch by Sam and a run out and Charlotte got one bowled. William’s bowing was tight and Sam’s fielding was excellent.

A result to forget, but a lesson to learn. This is cricket not baseball and not every ball needs to be slogged at.
