Match Report
Result: L 15 - 20 (3 - 4)
We travelled to De Aston with high hopes and the weather looked like it was on our side, clearing up nicely for kick off. The team was fortunate enough to have a fantastic following of parents, family members and spectators. Little did we know at this point that we were in for a great afternoon of rugby. St Hugh’s boys came out really strong with some strong ball carrying and good support play. Aydin opened up our try account with a well worked try. Playing on a large pitch we realised the space to exploit was out wide. St Hugh’s worked hard to get the ball out there either through passing or kicking and sometimes it paid off. St Hugh’s appeared to be playing better rugby but De Aston kept at it and continued to match us try for try making for a great game. Aydin added another try before half-time and we went into the second half two tries to two. The St Hugh’s boys identified De Aston's main threat and worked hard to close this down. We must mention ‘that tackle’. Will C sent a De Aston player flying which provided us the opportunity to turn the ball over. Charlie T was then able to work his magic and get across the try line. Again De Aston came back and we sat three tries to three. Then a bit of creative magic… Cross field kick from Aydin. Will C looked like he had managed to get on the end of it, but unfortunately he had gone out of play. It did look good though and showed how dangerous we can be with some confidence. The minutes were ticking away and then in the last play of the game De Aston got the ball out to their danger man in some space. He used his pace out wide and got in under the posts in time for the whistle. End result three tries to St Hugh’s and four tries to De Aston. A great display of rugby by both teams and the St Hugh’s boys played as a team with so many individuals that could be mentioned for moments of greatness. Well done boys! Great performance, let’s keep building.
