U13 Rugby v Wisbech Grammar School (A) 1.15pm (Earlier KO)

Match Report

Result:  40 - 35 (8 tries - 7)

With the freezing temperature it was a bit touch and go if the game was going to go ahead. Thankfully the sun helped thaw out the pitch and we headed to Wisbech for the afternoon. With the absence of Sam, Joshua F stepped up into the captaincy job and St Hugh’s kicked off to get the game underway. The ball landed with the Wisbech winger who went straight through to score the first try of the game. Wisbech controlled the game for the first 10 minutes but then St Hugh’s got themselves back into it with some well executed tries by Rory S. St Hugh’s were playing some excellent rugby, but the slightest mistake Wisbech responded well to. Both teams went try for try, St Hugh’s coming through Rory S, George C and Jude. St Hugh’s managed to get themselves in front, but Wisbech were not finished; they came back time and time again trying to break through St Hugh’s defence. This tested the team and Joshua F displayed some great leadership lifting his team to go back for more. St Hugh’s gave away a free kick right on their try line with seconds to go. Wisbech set up for a crash ball and right in the way was Rory P to make a try stopping tackle. St Hugh’s turned the ball over just as the final whistle sounded. An amazing team effort from the U13 boys, they should all be exceptionally proud of their performance, I certainly was.

Well done boys and Thank you.
