Match Report

U8 Boys:

Returning from the half term break, the U8 boys, still full of sugar from Halloween, faced a newly put together Burton Hathow side. With short notice, the boys switched to a touch game which was new to both teams, and they sure did impress. The St Hugh’s boys set off strongly with a breakaway try from Reuben to put the boys in front and bring them confidence. Monty, our man of the match, then followed up with another two tries. However, the newly put together Burton Hathow side responded with scoring two tries. After a strong first half, the boys got the fluids in and came together with some great ideas from Barnaby, Jack and Monty K, we attacked the field with ideas of spreading out in defence and running straight in attack. St Hugh’s, with those ideas in mind, gained another 4 tries with Raphael joining the try scores. Efforts from the whole team meant the boys could hold onto the lead bringing us to victory. Being thrown in the deep end with a new way of playing rugby can be challenging and off putting, but st-Hugh’s stepped up to the challenge and didn’t let it get in the way. Well done U8 boys, what a way to return to school!

U9 Boys:

The U9 boys played in a touch game against a well drilled Burton Hathow side on Wednesday afternoon. This week Edward captained the team and enjoyed having some input during our team talks after each quarter. The St Hugh’s side were a force to be reckoned with in the first half from a defensive point of view, winning a good number of turnovers through some fabulous touches. On the ball, we made some good runs and offloads and our decision making improved as the game progressed. With some.confident ball carrying and passing, tries came from Freddie and George. It was a well contested game and resulted in a narrow defeat. Going forwards, we will be working on supporting the ball carrier in attack and playing together as a team.
