The U8 St Hugh’s boys football team travelled across the Humber bridge to Tranby for their football festival. The boys were excited and in high spirits for what was to be a great afternoon of sport, in the sunshine!
We agreed that we would change the goal keeper each game and that the captaincy would be earnt on performance and demonstrating sporting values. Our first game saw us drawn against Read School. The boys played a lot of football in our own half and Read eventually took advantage of this to put away 4 goals with some strong strikes challenging our goal keeper. The next game we looked to try and play and bit more football in the other teams half which we did and it produced an opportunity on goal for Reuben who tucked it away nicely. In our third game we met Lincoln Minster and the boys learning from the previous games started looking after the ball better and linking some nice passes through Monty R, Hugo and Reuben in the midfield. We won this game 1 - 0 and the boys took some confidence into the next game with another solid performance against Scarborough. Great defensive work from Raphael, Monty K and Toby saw us take another win 1 - 0. The final match of the afternoon was against our hosts Tranby. They were well drilled, but St Hugh’s put up a great fight with some good shots on goal that were well saved. Barnaby also had a great performance in goal making some impressive saves.
Well played to all the St Hugh’s boys a fantastic afternoon of football with some great teamwork and amazing effort throughout. Thank you.
