U9 Football v Burton Hathow (H) 2.15pm

Match Report

Result: L3-7

Despite the scoreline, this was a very even match and enjoyable to watch. Burton opened the scoring, through their most dominant player who was as slippery as an eel to pin down. However, we equalised through a fine individual goal after Freddie H dribbled from his own half past several opponents and powered the ball past their keeper. Having gone 2-1 down we then equalised again through Valentina C who showed typically great tenacity in tackling and dispossessing the opposition player and squeezing her shot in at the near post.

We showed great heart and effort all over the pitch again, and though he scored some spectacular goals, we learned how to crowd out their key player as the game went on. George P (selected by Burton as player of the match) bagged his deserved goal as reward for some outstanding play during the whole match, and the team as a whole showed glimpses of good passing combinations. Albie C looked assured at the back and even went on a classy run all the way into their area just to place his shot wide of the far post. I commented from the sidelines that Albie’s elegant style was reminiscent of Alan Hansen in his prime. However, much to my consternation, Mr Pickering informed me that none of the pupils (or for that matter the parents) would remember who Alan Hansen was!!

An entertaining game - well done Year 4!
