Match Report
Result: 7-1 L
We started well, going straight onto the attack and took the lead with one of our first forays - Bertie P sweeping the ball in after some incisive approach play by Ralph. We held Burton at bay for a while with a combination of dogged defending and misdirected shooting. However, they eventually managed to fire in an unstoppable shot from outside the area. It was backs to the wall from then on and, though we found it tough, we showed great spirit and resilience to tackle and deny space where possible. The opposition rightly chose Ralph as their player of the match - he was busy, bustling and skilful, whilst special mention must also go to Freddie S, who read the game brilliantly in defence. He timed his tackles superbly, even strolling out with the ball on one occasion in Hansen-esque fashion after dispossessing their centre forward. This was a tough afternoon, but I was very proud of the players for sticking to their tasks; this was one of the strongest Under 9 opposition teams I have seen in many a year.
