Match Report
Red Team
Result: 6-3 W
On Wednesday the girls took on Ranby for the second time this season. Over the hockey term the girls have progressed individually and as a team. We knew this match would be tough but were keen to put into practice all the skills and movement we have been working on. The game started strong and the girls quickly realised that they needed to apply extra pressure and shut down attacking passes. An early goal scored by Ranby ignited the girls and Annie beautifully took the ball to goal levelling the scores.
For the first three quarters of the match the game was level and Hollie and Emilia were part of this scoring trio. Hollie had a great strike on goal and Emilia put into practice the additional tap onto a ball to securely get it across the line. Going into the final quarter the game was 3-3 and the girls had to push till the end. A well positioned ball down the pitch allowed Abi to push it in at the post. Cecily worked methodically down the pitch and applied great pressure in attack and defence. A well earned goal saw St Hugh’s with a 5-3 lead.
Anna had a fantastic match supporting attacking and defending players. She stood out as being able to read the game and reposition to ensure space was covered. In the final minutes of the game she hit the ball from just inside the D and it went in. This goal meant the game ended a 6-3 win to St Hugh’s. The team demonstrated lots of skill and super ball passing and movement. It has been a pleasure to coach the girls this season and to see their progression. Wishing them all the best with hockey clubs and U11 next year. Anna was awarded opposition player of the match.
Blue Team
Result: 0-2 L
On a very cold afternoon the Blue team played against a mixed Ranby team. The girls fought hard and there were some great tackles and defensive play. Eme was excellent in defence, bringing the ball out quickly and driving down the pitch. Valentina was tenacious when tackling and thoroughly deserved to be nominated as player of the match by the opposition. Sadly two early goals were scored by Ranby and no goal for either team in the second half.
Yellow Team
Result: 7-0 W
The Yellow team was on fire this afternoon. The goals came thick and fast from Lucy, Libby, Alexandra (2), Willow (2) and an own goal.
Libby worked her socks off and showed some excellent ball carrying skills and distributed the ball well. Libby was nominated player of the match by the opposition.
I would like to thank all the girls for their efforts and contributions this hockey season. A pleasure to see them enjoy the game and make significant progress.
