U9 Rugby
Tigers
Result: W - 2 L - 1
On Monday 21st September, the St Hugh’s U9 rugby teams welcomed Lincoln Minster for a fantastic afternoon of rugby as part of our Festival of Touch and Introduction to Contact Rugby.
Lincoln Minster brought three teams, while St Hugh’s entered two teams (Tigers and Saints). Across the afternoon, two matches took place at the same time, alongside a skills zone where teams could develop their passing, handling and rugby skills. Lincoln Minster rotated their teams around the different activities, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to play and learn.
The St Hugh’s Tigers began their afternoon against Lincoln Minster Ones. It was a closely fought match, with Lincoln Minster eventually coming out on top 3–2. Despite the result, there was some excellent rugby from St Hugh’s, with some strong attacking play, good teamwork and plenty of determination shown throughout the game.
In the second game, St Hugh’s faced Lincoln Minster Twos. The team responded brilliantly, putting some excellent tactics into practice and scoring some fantastic tries, particularly out on the wings. St Hugh’s went on to win the match 5–2, showing great improvement and confidence as the afternoon progressed.
The final game saw St Hugh’s take on Lincoln Minster Threes. Once again, the team played some exciting rugby and worked well together, eventually securing another 5–2 victory. There were some excellent tries and some impressive attacking play from the whole team.
It was a fantastic afternoon of rugby, with lots of fun had by all the teams involved. The festival provided a great opportunity for the pupils to develop their skills, enjoy playing rugby and experience the introduction to contact rugby in a positive and enjoyable environment.
Well done to all the players involved for their enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship. A brilliant afternoon of rugby!
Saints
Result: W 1 D 1 L 1
Our Saints side made a positive start working well as a team with relentless touch tackles winning the ball back and running in a number of tries in the first game. Won
In game number 2 it was a tight contest with both teams evenly matched. Both teams' touch tackles were fast paced with possession of the ball regularly getting turned over after 6 touches. Draw
The game was against LMS 1 which was a difficult match against a good side. St Hugh’s worked very hard but unfortunately it was one game too many for the hosts. Lost
They all should be very proud of their efforts, a great afternoon of rugby.
