U9 Set Rugby

On Wednesday the U8 and U9 boys came together to enjoy a Set Rugby Triangular. They began by warming up in their teams and it was great to see them organise themselves and complete a rugby specific warm up without me saying a word! It was a privilege to stand back and watch this. They then played each team twice over a course of two rounds of games. They were responsible for organising their substitutions and they did this very well. Thank you to Freddie and Charlie for supporting the boys and being touch judges.

Though the games were close, it was Red Set who came away as eventual winners scoring 16 points in total from two wins and two draws. I was so impressed with the standard of rugby on display and it made us reflect on just how far the boys have come since the beginning of the season in September. They showed great games awareness at the start and restart of play, ran confidently FORWARDS with the ball, supported the ball carrier, off loaded before being tackled and found gaps in the field.  Following a couple of disallowed tries, they soon realised the importance of touching the ball down properly. In defence, they showed good structure and made some fabulous 'touches' often leading to a turnover. It was great to see some of our learning dispositions in action too...teamwork, perseverance, creativity and reflection.

It has been a real pleasure to coach the boys this term and I look forward to seeing how they progress over the next few years as they move through the age groups. I hope they have enjoyed the start of their rugby journey, making some memories and learning a few things along the way!
