Match Reports

Blue Team

Result: Draw

We welcomed Grantham on the hottest day of the year so far. They won the toss and selected to bat first. Sophia bowled 2 wickets and Paul 1. A lot of the team found it tricky getting enough length on their bowling action, so they bowled closer in. Harvey bowled well when on target.

Due to the heat, a lot of the team lost concentration and let a few balls trickle over the boundary. At the end of the innings Grantham had scored 300 (start score of 200).

Grantham faced 3 overs per pair, due to time restrictions this meant that St Hugh’s only faced 2 overs per pair. Therefore the only fair solution was to call the match a draw.

St Hugh’s batted well and Harvey managed to find the gaps and hit the ball behind, scoring several 4s. Edward and Paul also batted well.

Florence B was captain for this match and she was superb! She commanded the field and gave positive encouragement throughout. Well done team a positive end to the season.

Red Team

Result: W 100-53

On Wednesday the Red Team took to the main cricket square to play Grantham Prep. Despite the heat, the team was ready to go. Batting first the pairs worked well to find the space and work on increasing the distance of the hit and ball placement. There were some super shots from many but some stand out hits were made from Beau, George C, Verity and Harriett. Many of the pairs worked well to make it through the 3 overs without wickets. There is still room for improvement in communication and keeping our heads focused in heightened match scenarios. After a super batting innings and a needed water break it was time to field. Beau began for St Hugh’s and immediately got a wicket. A super start and positive encouragement from all team mates. It has been lovely to see this sportsmanship and positivity towards each other grow as the season has progressed. St Hugh’s worked well when fielding to stop the ball and reduce the runs that Grantham could make. The match finished with St Hugh's scoring 100 and Grantham 53. It has been a super season for all the children involved and for those moving up to U11 we wish them all the best. Opposition player of the match, Beau.
