Wassailing!

In Forest School, pupils have been busy learning about wassailing – the ancient custom of waking up the forest and blessing the trees for a good harvest.

The children started by making lots of noise banging the pots and pans in the woods before enjoying apple juice with cinnamon and eating toast made on the fire. The ceremony drew to a close with everyone singing a special wassail song and shouting 'wake up tree', and then giving the tree a big 'thank you' hug.

Let’s hope their hard work pays off and we do, indeed, have a good harvest this year!
