Year 5 Geography Visit

Year 5 visited Snipe Dales and Gibraltar Point to look at different features of a river as part of their Geography studies.

We located the source of the River Lymn at Snipe Dales and further downstream we picked out meanders, a valley and observed the changing depth and width of the river channel. As well as this, pupils worked out the speed of the river using a dog biscuit, a stopwatch and a tape measure. As a bit of cross-curricular work, the children each carried out some kick sampling of the river and, by using a flowchart, tried to identify the minibeasts we collected. We then travelled to Gibraltar Point and compared and contrasted the characteristics of the Lymn at the mouth of the river.
