Match Report
On a glorious Monday afternoon, a group of Year 6-8 St Hugh’s athletes made their way to Oakham for an Athletics Track and Field meet. Unfortunately due to a vehicle malfunction six team members were not able to attend. This meant we were able to offer others opportunities to compete in events they were less familiar with. It was really impressive to see individuals step up and perform to the best of their ability in the absence of their peers. Nevertheless, team St Hugh’s had some outstanding results among tough competition with a few athletes competing up an age group. Rory P and Arabella delivered an exceptional result in the 1200m both placing 1st in their respective categories closely followed by Genevieve C who came in as the 3rd girl. In hurdles, Edward J placed 4th with Penny L coming in 2nd overall. The 200m saw Penny L 5th, Edward J 2nd, and George C 6th. Under 13 girls Kitty W and Megan B also achieved PB’s in the event. Across in the field events, Callan came 1st in javelin throwing 19m and Charlie T came 2nd in his personal favourite, long jump with a new PB of 4.47m. Special mention to Rory P who threw the discus for the first time and Edward J who got a PB of 3.77m in long jump. James F showed a great attitude and leadership in doing the most events by any St Hugh’s athlete. Further results to follow. The last event of the day was 4x100m relays where we were still able to enter a team in all four heats. It was great to see the improvement in smooth changeovers and pace of all runners. Well done to the U12 boys (Callan N, Edward J, Joshua F, James F), U13 boys (William C, George C, Charlie T, James F), the U13 girls (Kitty W, Megan B, Arabella G, Penelope L) and the U12 girls (Harriet T, Genevieve C, Penelope L, Coco W) who came 2nd. Overall it was a fantastic display of the hard work each child has been putting in all season and left everyone eager for Sports Day in a couple of weeks time!
