Match Report
All U10/11 girls travelled to Oakham this week to take part in the U11 Brooke Priory Festival. There were some tough games but brilliant moments from all involved.
Red:
The red team had 5 matches today and came across some tough opposition. It’s great to see the girls applying the skills they are learning in training into their match play. There were some seamless transitions and movements on court. We are getting stronger at working at whole court defence and using our jump to contest for the ball. The girls scored lots of goals today and should be proud of themselves. Well done all!
Navy:
The Navy team started rather frantically against Brooke Priory and they all agreed that they had not played to the best of their ability. Annabelle, Faith and Florence certainly had their work cut out in our defensive third - we did manage to turn the ball over on occasion and eventually found Olivia in the circle who remained composed and scored our first goal of the day. We lost this game 3-1. The team set some targets for their next match against Witham which was closely contested though St Hugh’s definitely had more possession. The girls settled down and worked hard for one another - we saw more accurate passing and better determination to win the ball. We maintained our scoring streak, with a super shot from Faith, resulting in a 1-0 win. It was great to see how the girls began to gel as a team in our final two matches and even better to watch them make a comeback from being 0-3 down against LGS to winning 5-3! Annabelle and Tallulah were kept busy in our attacking circle having been fed some super balls from Olivia as centre. Faith and Florence were a mean team in defence, denying the LGS side space. We managed to keep a clean sheet in our final game against Peterborough with Annabelle playing a key role as GK. She had some super interceptions, turning the ball over a number of times. Faith worked well in the centre linking up play and feeding the ball into Florence and Olivia who used each other extremely well in the circle. Olivia added another four goals to her season tally with some very accurate shooting. The girls went from strength to strength and finished on a high. Well done!
Purple:
The Purple team opened their matches with a slightly scrappy game against Witham, where we were definitely still warming up and finding our places on the court! However, the girls’ communication improved enormously in the next game against Leicester and it was great to see more deliberate passing into space, and our attackers having plenty to do. We then played each side again, and the team continued to go from strength to strength, working hard as a team. There was also some strong shooting from all. Well done girls!
