U11 Football v Burton Hathow (A) 2.15pm
Match Report
Blue Team: Played 3 W1 L2
Playing two other schools as well as our own ‘Red’ Team we enjoyed some really competitive matches, despite the fact that we had lost 8 players to the concurrent cross-country meeting.
Against Burton we battled well, with George P pulling the strings in a central midfield role and enjoying a great tussle with their star player. Although we pressed hard and created a couple of chances, we could not find the net. Burton, on the other hand, managed two goals.
Playing a school we had never encountered before - Handel House from Gainsborough - we passed really well between us and this time created more clear-cut chances. Charles P looked dangerous on the right wing and sent several shots flying just past the post, and Harry L pressured their midfielders well. At the back, Freddie S took charge and snuffed out attacks effectively. Eventually, George P, again imperious in midfield, set up the attack which saw a shot parried by their keeper at the feet of the delighted George G who netted confidently. William B kept a clean sheet between the sticks, and Arthur pitched in well on the left wing.
The final match against St Hugh’s ‘Red’ team (counter-intuitively playing in yellow bibs!) was again a very even game. The only difference being two marvellously struck long-range efforts by Ralph J-B (Red team) which both found the net. Hugo in the Red team goal proved difficult to beat with a couple of good reaction saves.
Red (yellow) Team: Played 3 W1 L2
The team in yellow bibs had two very competitive games against Burton Hathow and Handel House. In both games there were chances at either end, the only difference was that the opposition shots sneaked in the goal whereas we seemed to hit the post every time. One shot from Ralph against Handel House hit both posts and still didn't go in the goal! There was some great goalkeeping from Hugo, attacking football from Josh M, Charlie S and Harvey and solid defensive work from Joseph and Jonty.
The team had more luck against our Blue team and managed a 2-0 win.
