Match Reports

Red Team

Result: L 2-1

Our first match of the season saw two mixed ability teams travel to Grantham on an afternoon more suited to polar bears than football matches.

Slightly restricted by injuries to key players and absences, the Red Team worked well together and threatened the opposition goal on occasion in the first half. However, we went in at half time 2-0 down.

A reshuffle of positions saw us create many more opportunities; Rory S played further forward, causing persistent problems for their defence, and stabbed home from close range after some excellent approach play. Sam H captained well and led by example. Alastair dropped back to defence and looked assured. Throughout the game Edmund was a commanding presence at the back and timed his tackles impeccably. Josh F marauded down the wing and linked play well. Callan in goal rode his luck somewhat, but also pulled off some instinctive saves to keep a clean sheet in the second half.

We can consider ourselves unfortunate not to have levelled the scores but, alas, today it was not to be. Well battled boys!

Blue Team

Result: L 2-1

The blues came together well considering that this was their first fixture. We didn’t look after the ball well early on and had a few missed opportunities which would of really changed the outcome. The game finished 2-1 in favour of our hosts who played well when they had the ball. There was some positive performance though; Edward B performed well upfront, but his aim seemed slightly off hitting the posts on various occasions. He eventually poked a loose ball in to get our first score. Ellis was solid in defence with some great tackling and ball distribution. Rory and Seb were both busy around the field linking up nicely with other players to put the team in strong positions. On the ball, Henry had a strong presence and proved very difficult to stop. Edward J played well, running nicely in possession of the ball and had a booming clearance kick. Edward J was voted Player of the Match by the opposition. Great effort boys! Lots of lessons learnt to take into our next game. Well done.
