With just one 50 minute training session behind them owing to the freezing weather last week, we had two mixed ability teams travelling to Highfields for our first U11 football fixture. 

On the top pitch, Highfields had a couple of very strong players who we found difficult to contain. However, we stuck to our tasks very well - in particular, Edward R who tackled tenaciously. In the second half Beau swapped positions to be in goal, with Alastair coming out on pitch. This gave the team better balance, with Beau pulling off some wonderful saves and Alastair scoring and generally causing problems for their midfield and defence. The second half was therefore a more even game with Highfields scoring three goals to our two.

On the bottom pitch, we played with good cohesion, passing nicely and looking solid in defence but also threatening in attack. After a 1-3 scoreline in the first half, we quickly pulled a goal back through Rory P who was busy up front all game. With George P, looking classy in midfield like a young Martin Ødegaard, and Gio at the centre of the action we created many openings. In defence Seb looked assured and unflustered, timing tackles well and distributing the ball sensibly. Behind him, Callan made some excellent saves too. The game ended 5-4 to Highfields but it could have gone either way!
