U11 Highfields Cross Country (A) 1.40pm
Match Report
Result:
U9 Girls - 3rd Place
U11 Girls - 2nd Place
It was a very bleak afternoon for the rearranged Highfields Cross Country event on Thursday which saw four St Hugh’s teams face very damp conditions. The children did extremely well to ensure they were prepared for their respective age group races and it was lovely to see them supporting one another despite the poor weather. As ever, we had great parental support which certainly made a difference, so thank you to those who were able to attend.
Despite the challenging conditions, our runners worked hard around the course and crossed the finish line with nothing left in the tank! There were some very strong performances, including Valentina C, who was the winner of the U9 Girls event! Valentina set the bar high and her teammates helped to secure an overall 3rd place for the U9 girls category! Well done to Georgia who achieved 12th place as a Year 3 runner, Ophelia, Eme and Charlotte B.
The U9 boys followed, completing the same course though a little muddier! Our first boy home was George P in an impressive 12th place. The other boys ran well, including Albie, Joshua, Monty R and Raphael.
Next up was the U11 Girls who faced an even muddier course which included an additional two laps of the playing field before heading out on the same route. The St Hugh’s contingent started well and quickly progressed to the front half of the pack. It was a solid performance by our leader Harriet T, who finished in a very pleasing 6th place. Hollie F was on her shoulder, coming in at 7th place. Cecily and Bella dug deep and got in at 13th and 15th respectively, followed by Charlotte C. This team performance saw the St Hugh’s U11 Girls achieving 2nd Place in their category!
Finally, the U11 boys got to tackle the muddiest course in the worst conditions but this did not dampen their spirits! It was a strong start for the boys, which saw Beau, Edward R and Vinny emerge within the lead pack initially. As the race progressed, the gap opened up somewhat but the boys put in a great shift in order to score as highly as possible. It was an incredibly tight finish between 1st-3rd place, with Beau coming in at number 3, a strong performance! Just as impressive was Edward R who had a super run, crossing the line in 7th place. Following a very fast start, Vinny struggled to maintain his pace, dropping back a little but he continued to graft and achieved 20th place. Ralph had his first run out in a good while, having stepped in to replace Gio who was part of the Uppingham Orchestral Day. Ralph knew he had one task to ensure our 4th counter crossed the line and he did just that. A good team performance from the U11 boys.
We look forward to seeing these runners compete in the Annual Set Cross Country Championships next Friday and hope to see a few of them make the Podium! Please come along and support them before we break for the half term.
