U11 Hockey v Ranby & Witham (H) 2.15pm HHC

Match Report

A Team

Result: Won 3-0 Lost 1-0

We hosted Witham Hall and Ranby at Horncastle Hockey Club. We played Witham Hall first; after a slow start we found our rhythm and started passing the ball wide and attacking the Witham goal. We won a few short corners which Ralph set up cleanly. We took the lead when Beau struck a nice shot in the corner. Beau scored a second and Charlie S completed the scoring when he turned in an accurate cross to give us a 3-0 win.
After Witham and Ranby had drawn 1-1 we played our match against Ranby. There were lots of chances at either end, with Vinnie making some excellent saves. We had lots of opportunities to take the lead with George C, Beau, Charlie, Freddie, Ralph and Gio all coming close. Ranby somehow scored with the last hit of the game, we certainly deserved at least a draw!

B Team

Result: Lost 2 - 0 Lost 4 - 0

First up was Witham Hall, the game was closely contested with a lot of hockey being played in the St Hugh’s half. St Hugh’s defended well but kept giving away possession. William had to work hard in goal making some fantastic saves, but eventually a couple of shots got away from him. Some great progress from last week by the whole team. William was voted for player of the match by the Witham team. Ranby and Witham then played in a closely contested game which was great to watch. Finishing up the afternoon St Hugh’s played Ranby and the St Hugh’s players took some learning from the previous game. Holding possession a bit more allowed for movement up the pitch through Harry, Joshua and Charles linking well in the centre. This gave St Hugh’s some goal scoring opportunities which were well saved by the Ranby goalkeeper. Ranby passed the ball well and some loose marking allowed them to score some well finished goals. Harvey and Joseph did not make it easy for them with some solid defensive efforts. The player of the match as voted for by Ranby was Joshua. Well done to all the players involved, some great progress made let’s take this into next week.
