Match Report

A Team

It was raining from start to finish, but the U11 girls showed fantastic effort and determination throughout. Playing Witham was always going to be a challenging fixture, and in the first half we found ourselves in a bit of panic mode. Despite some lovely passages of play, strong positioning and moments of real promise, we just couldn’t find a way past their goalkeeper. We went into half time 4–0 down.
After a motivating team talk, the girls came back onto the pitch with real purpose. For 15 minutes of the final 20, they held Witham off brilliantly, showing resilience, teamwork and excellent defensive organisation. Annie led the back line with superb communication, constantly calling out who was free to mark and keeping the defensive shape tight.
Harriet made several brave breakthroughs towards goal and, in a 1v1 opportunity, confidently scored to put St Hugh’s on the scoreboard.
Although we eventually lost momentum in the final minutes, the girls should be proud of their determination in tough weather conditions and against a strong opposition. The final score was 8–1, but the team’s spirit, communication and second-half resilience were real highlights.

B Team

The B team travelled to Horncastle to play Witham in this Wednesday's fixture. Witham were a well oiled team and were strong on attack from the first whistle. St Hugh’s responded well and didn’t let Witham have it all their way. They kept tackling early to close down the space and tracking their players well on a 1v1.  Witham had some big hits and we found ourselves not between them and the goal, opening the gaps for Witham. Half time saw the team down 3 goals.
Team talk at half time about being quicker on transition and keeping width and space saw St Hugh's take control of possession more. With Emelia really driving the ball down the left side looking to pass to Jemima and Maddie. Stronger defending from the back with some great clearances from Libby slowed Witham's pace down. A great team effort saw a goal for St Hugh’s in the last quarter. A strong team effort from all the players which didn’t reflect in the score. Well done everyone!!
