U11 Laxton Hockey Festival (A) 2.00pm
Match Report
A Team
Won 3 Drew 1 Lost 1
We played five 12 minute games in the Oundle festival. Despite playing on some quite narrow pitches we put together some excellent passing hockey, with all the players looking for a pass rather than just playing the ball forward. We were very unlucky to lose the first game against Bedford, whose goalkeeper made a number of impressive saves to stop us scoring. In the following games we dominated the matches and there were some great goals, particularly from Beau who used his reverse stick hit to great effect. Gio, Ralph, Freddie and George all scored or set up goals. Harry, George P and Charlie played in various positions very effectively. Vinnie was once again very impressive in goal, only conceding penalty shuffle goals throughout the festival.
Bedford 1 lost 1-0
Leicester Grammar won 2-0
Bedford 2 won 3-2
Witham Hall drew 1-1
Stamford won
B Team

We travelled the long journey to Oundle in high spirits with a focus set out to score some goals. The event was 7 aside but through discussions with staff we managed to facilitate 9 v 9 games allowing maximum game time for all players. The first game saw us play Bedford and after a slow start we achieved our target straightaway! A goal for Charles through some excellent team work. This continued and Charles managed to tuck away another goal, and just before the final whistle Bedford got a goal. Positive start from St Hugh’s.
Next up we met Witham Hall who had beaten us earlier in the season. With slightly smaller goals it made it challenging for teams to score. Both teams played some good hockey with Harvey and Joseph defending and passing the ball well. This game finished a nil nil draw. In our third game we met the first of Laxton’s 2 teams. Again both teams played considerably well. St Hugh’s moved the ball so much better giving both Joshua and Charles opportunities on goal. Laxton defended well though and the final whistle went for another nil nil draw.
The 4th game we met Copthill it took St Hugh’s a little while to get into this game but when they did we scored a couple of good goals through Joshua and Charles. Copthill then responded with a goal just before the final whistle. The final game of the afternoon saw us draw the other Laxton team. Both teams played some good hockey to finish the afternoon, it was end to end with both teams scoring a goal each. St Hugh’s came through Joseph which was well deserved following his defensive efforts. Well played to all the boys involved. Amazing progress made over a short season. Thank you and enjoy the half term.
