U11 Softball v Ranby (H) 2.15pm
Match Report
Red Team
Result: Lost
With two overs per pair we managed to complete this match before the heavens opened. As a team we struggled to put many runs on the board - not one pair scored a boundary - and we found ourselves restricted somewhat by some tight Ranby bowling and sharp fielding. We managed to accumulate 45 runs from the ten overs which was reasonable, however, the loss of five wickets costing five runs apiece meant we totalled just 220.
With such a meagre lead, it was imperative that we emulated Ranby’s accuracy and alertness in the field. We got off to a flying start when Annabelle got a run out after the very first delivery. After that, fielding was good and catches were held (George G and Freddie S) to make it quite an exciting climax to the game. It was only the last pair who started to put together some runs that was the real difference between the sides. Annabelle and Florence co-captained superbly, selecting the right bowlers at the right time. Well done team!
Mrs Warwick-Smith's Team
Result: Lost
The team put in a strong performance against Ranby in an exciting and closely contested match. Batting first, St Hugh’s showed great determination and skill, with Harvey leading the way with some brilliant batting. His confident stroke play helped the team build an impressive total and gave us a strong platform heading into the second innings. When it came to fielding, the team worked hard throughout and demonstrated accurate throwing and good teamwork in the field. Every player contributed positively, helping to keep the pressure on the opposition.
The match went right down to the final over, with both teams competing fiercely. Despite our efforts, Ranby managed to edge ahead at the very end, leaving St Hugh’s narrowly defeated. The final score was 267–258. Although the result did not go our way, the team should be very proud of their performance, effort, and sportsmanship throughout the match.
White Team
Result: Lost
The white team were very enthusiastic to start the match before the weather came. They won the toss and decided to field first. In the field as a team they had their best performance of the term so far, showing the practice in game lessons is paying off. We had some great communication and backing up from all the team and a couple of close catches. Bowling overall wasn't bad but this is something that we continue to practice. Special mention to Bonnie, Livvy and Maddie with some great bowling figures. It was the team's time to bat and they tried really hard against an accurate Ranby side. Unfortunately we lost quite a few wickets and didn't get enough boundaries. There were a few sneaky singles and good communication between the pairs which showed good game awareness.
Overall a good showing in the field but we need to work on our bowling. Final result 124-186.
