Captain George won the rock, paper, scissors and chose to field. Our opening bowing pair restricted them to 14 runs for 1 wicket with a catch being taken from Hetty’s bowling. Freddie and Harvey were next with Harvey getting a wicket bowled, final figures of 7 for 1. Olivia and Libby bowled 19 for none from their 3 overs. George and Annabelle took a wicket each; George’s in a maiden over. The fourth pair scored -7 for 2. Hugo and William were the last pair to bowl and restricted them to 15 runs. Witham Hall scored 248 for 4 with William keeping wicket well.
As St Hugh’s came into bat, Hetty and Annabelle had a forgettable first over as the Witham Hall bowler took a hat-trick. But the girls steadied themselves, ran well between the wickets and finished with positive runs to their name; Annabelle hit a 4. Harvey and Freddie ran and communicated well. Harvey hit a 4 and they finished on 23 runs without loss. Olivia and Libby had a runout but still scored 10 runs. George and Freddie brought the game towards the winning line as George hit four 4s but they lost a wicket to a Mankad dismissal. The last pair of Hugo and William scored 8 runs with two runouts.
St Hugh’s ended on 269 for 7. Awarded by the opposition, Annabelle was best bowler and George best batter.

St Hugh’s U11s played brilliantly yesterday to beat Witham 302–275 in an exciting match.
The team batted confidently with excellent running between the wickets and strong teamwork throughout. In the field, the players showed great determination and energy, working hard for each other until the final ball.
