U11A Hardball & Softball v LMS (A) 2.00pm
Match Report
U11 Hardball Pairs:
Result: SHS 308 LMS 356
A first match for the hardball team saw us open the batting at Lincoln Minster. It was a fast outfield and a fairly short boundary so there was good opportunity to hit some fours. It didn’t take long before captain George P swatted one away in the second over. Both he and William B put on 23 without losing a wicket in the first four overs. Other boundaries were hit by Hugo HS, Verity B, Edward R, Ralph JB and Harriet T - who really clouted the ball with purpose. Our five pairs of batters were pretty consistent in their run scoring, all adding around 20 runs per pair. We thus ended up on a total of 308 (starting at 200).
Lincoln Minster struggled to put on many runs at the start of their innings, with some generally accurate bowling from St Hugh’s. George C, Harriet T, Ralph JB and Hugo all claimed wickets. This was until Minster’s three key batters came to the crease and scored multiple boundaries. This saw the hosts through to a victory that was not on the cards throughout the majority of the innings.
The players can be proud of their performances; a special mention must also be given to William B and Vinnie B who shared the wicketkeeping duties and played with remarkable assurance. George P also impressed with his captaincy skills, ensuring all had a fair crack of the whip, adjusting the field and passing on encouragement to all of his players but particularly the debutants.
