U13 Girls’ Cricket - County Finals

Congratulations to the girls for competing so well at the recent Indoor Softball County Finals! With a squad of nine players, half of which were Y5/6, it was a great achievement to get to this stage.

We travelled to Nocton sports centre to play the county finals against Stamford School and Kesteven and Grantham Girls School. We played Stamford first who got off to a very fast start, hitting the very first ball of the game for six. However we bowled and fielded really well, with April, Verity and Alicia taking some great catches and Harriet bowling an amazing over that included 4 wickets. Stamford finished on 121.

We batted bravely against some fast bowling; Jemima retired on 18 not out and there was a great partnership between Faith and April. We finished on a very creditable 81 for 6.

We then batted first against KGGS. Jemima again retired, as did April who hit two very impressive 6’s. All the girls chipped in with some valuable runs and Harriet, Megan and Verity ran well at the end to help us to an excellent 105 for 3. It was always going to be close, Jemima, Kitty, Alicia and Megan bowled well, helped by some good fielding and a great catch from Ela meant that KGGS finished on 104 meaning we won by 1 run!

Surprisingly Grantham then bowled Stamford out for 36 and won easily meaning they qualified for the regional rounds with St Hugh’s and Stamford finishing runners up.  Well done to all girls involved - a particularly impressive result for St Hugh’s given our size and age of girls involved!
