Match Report
Result: v Bs 0-0, v Cs 4-0 W
In a busy hockey week with three games in four days due to the weekend tour to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, the girls travelled to Oakham for a Wednesday fixture.
When we arrived we had two teams to play - their Bs and Cs. It was agreed that we’d play four quarters alternating between the sides.
Starting against their Bs the game was keenly fought and competitive. Tabitha and Lulu were marshalling the defence and any player who broke into the D was soon closed down by goalie Gemma and she smothered the shot. With a full complement of subs the wingers and centre forward were rolling regularly and were able to put in high energy levels. Captain Jemima was in the centre of the field. The first quarter ended 0-0 but with St Hugh’s making good breaks down the right.
In the second quarter we were able to start at speed and this gave us the pace to break their defence with Jemima scoring to the left side of the goalie. A few minutes later she created some space, having been provided the ball by Megan, and slotted the ball into the right corner.
Going into the third quarter, it was a tighter affair again with Gemma making a couple of key stops and Lulu crucial tackles to keep the score to nil.
Into the last quarter the girls still had good energy levels and were battling well for the ball. Jemima got her third of the game with a little lift and then she turned provider for Alicia who swept hard low to the left side.
Girls of the game were Jemima and Tabitha.
