U13 Hardball Cricket v Oakham (A)
Please see downloads for TEAM SHEET. Given this is the first games afternoon, this fixture is being treated as a warm up game and may involve some coaching input. We are pleased to be fielding two hardball teams this season, with more girls transitioning into this version of cricket. There will also be softball fixtures.
Match Report
A Team - Result - Lost by 8 wickets
It was great to have an early match in preparation for the IAPS game next week. We travelled to Oakham, lost the toss and were asked to bat first. We started strongly when captain Euan hit the second ball of the game into the river running past the ground. Rory also got off the mark with a 4 in the first over. The openers looked in control until Rory was perhaps a little unlucky to be given LBW with the score on 24. Toby got a good ball and then Josh N added some more runs with Euan, who was eventually out having top scored with 19. Boundaries were proving hard to come by but all the batters picked up useful singles and ran a few byes. Sam H and Jemima eventually managed to get the score to 90-7 at the end of 20 overs.
When Oakham batted, Charles bowled an accurate spell and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Sam came on first change and got a wicket first ball when Josh took a good catch as wicket keeper. The Oakham batsmen attacked our spinners, William C, Rory and Euan. Euan eventually picked up a wicket, well stumped by Will L, but we were unable to prevent Oakham reaching the target with 5 overs to go.
An encouraging first game of the season.
B Team - Result - Won 65 for 8 v 38 for 7
The U13 B team of 4 pairs was supplemented by three Oakham players in a start of season training game.
We chose to field first and got off to a strong start.
Charlie took a caught and bowled from his third ball and Rupert got a run out in his over. With one of the Oakham players gaining two of their colleague’s wickets Oakham were -12 for 4 after 4 overs! Oakham then built an innings but Edward and Charlie both bowled the opposition and Charlie gained a run out. Their final score was 38 for 7 from 16 overs.
Noah and Megan were our first pair who gained 9-1 from their two overs. Edward and Fergus were up next and scored 13 without loss. An Oakham pair were next and they scored 2 for 2. Alicia and Kitty scored 4 for 1. Fergus and Eva from Oakham scored 12 without loss. Our last pair of “normal time” were Charlie and Rupert who scored 25 without loss as Rupert hit some big 4s and Charlie ran good singles. Alicia and Kitty were then in again and scored an improved 8 for 1. Megan and Noah faced the last two overs and lost three wickets for -8 runs.
The final score was a winning 65 for 8.
