Match Report
For their final fixtures of the term the U13 boys attended a quadrangular at Oundle on Wednesday 19th March.
The first game was against the hosts Oundle. It was a well matched game with Oundle being the more fluent team, however Captain Max, William C and Toby kept them at bay. The only goal of the game came a couple of minutes from time from a short corner as we didn’t defend “by the numbers” resulting in no pressure being placed on their striker who slotted it in the bottom corner.
The second game was against Leicester Grammar. They scored after 14 seconds before we had got up to speed. Their second came from a hard strike right on the edge of the D. However, the boys kept battling away with Rupert, Charlie, Fergus and Euan putting in a big shift. Rupert pulled one back with a hard sweep from the left that was deflecting in off the keeper.
Our final game of the days was against St John’s who looked the best prepared and skillful side. They scored first and had opportunities for additional goals as they repeatedly broke into the D however a packed defence kept them out. With it being the last game of the term, the boys continued to work hard and kept attacking on the break. Our equaliser was created by Rupert who kept the ball on at the baseline and then cleverly fed the ball back to Charlie who swept the ball past the keeper into the back of the net. The final score was 1-1.
Well done boys for a hard fought and successful season.
The U13B team had a challenging afternoon facing some very strong opponents. Our first match was against Oakham, who proved to be quick on the ball and difficult to break down. Despite some great runs down the wings, getting past their goalkeeper was a significant challenge.
Next, we faced Leicester Grammar, and the match ended in a draw, which helped restore the boys' confidence after a tough start. Finally, we played St John's, and it was clear from the outset that they were an exceptional team. We put up a strong fight, but their quality was evident. Afterward, we mixed the teams, which allowed everyone to enjoy some great hockey and valuable experience.
Overall, it was a tough but valuable day for the team, and we’ll take the lessons learned into future matches.
