Match Report

Team A

Result:  5-1 W

The U13 A team consisted of just Year 8 boys for their first game of the season. Captain Max was in defence with Charles and Toby in goal.  The centre was controlled by William L and the forward line was Rupert, Charlie and Euan with rolling subs starting with Fergus and William C.  The boys were keen to have and use rolling subs in order to maximise effort and commitment on the pitch.
The boys started strongly and broke into the Stamford D early.  This resulted in a defender’s foot stopping a certain goal and a resultant penalty flick.  Captain Max stepped up and rifled the ball down the middle at the goalie’s helmet and it went in.  A minute later Charlie scored his first.
On 6 minutes Stamford got one back with one of their first attacks.
For the next 10 minutes the game was well fought with St Hugh’s on top.  In the 17th minute Euan swept in on the back post as the team were passing well to each other creating easier goals.
The best goal, in the coach’s opinion, was scored by Charlie but what made it so special was that Max had dribbled it from beyond the halfway line but then unselfishly laid it off for Charlie to score.  Within a minute Charlie completed his hattrick.
The half time score was 5-1.
No additional goals were scored in the second half but the Stamford keeper made some fine safes.
A strong start to the season.

Team B

Result:  0-4 W

As we arrived at Stamford, the U13B team quickly warmed up and were eager to begin match play. The first 10 minutes were strong, with Rory taking the lead and netting two quick goals. The question on everyone’s mind: could he complete a hat trick?
The match continued with two more 15-minute halves, and yes—Rory did complete his hat trick! But that wasn’t all. He also bagged a fourth goal, thanks to an excellent assist from Edward.
Defensively, Sam was solid throughout, and Josh was a rock in goal, preventing any chances from the opposition. The final score was a convincing 4-0 victory.
It was a great performance from the team, showcasing plenty of potential. I’m excited for the rest of the season with this group!
