Witham Hall visited St Hugh’s on a lovely sunny January for two senior boys hockey fixtures.

The Bs were up first.  In the first half Rory S scored the only goal of the half after 5 minutes.  St. Hugh’s were playing well as a team with Sam and Edward solid in defence.  The forward line of Rory, George and Noah were playing well as a unit.  
In the second half it was 9 minutes before the second goal and it was Rory who again converted the opportunity.  

The As were up next and they had a super opportunity in the first play of the game but just didn’t manage to convert.  It was on 5 minutes that Rupert scored the first.  On 11 minutes Charlie T lobbed the keeper for our second.  Toby was clearing his line well and the defence were being frugal with the opportunities for the opposition.  Charlie’s direct runs, Euan’s skills, Rupert’s trickiness and Fergus’ determination all meant that we were creating chances.  The half time score was 2-0.
Rupert scored again on 3 minutes in the second half on his reverse.  However, the game was not over.  Witham Hall scored after 8 minutes and then as our defenders kept leaving an opposition player high in our D they got a second and third.  The final score was 3-3 in a very entertaining game.  The lesson to take from the game was game management; when 3-1 up to continue driving forward will leave gaps at the back.
