On a beautiful spring afternoon at the Oundle School Festival, our U13 squad showed tremendous character and resilience in what proved to be a demanding and fast-paced event. With a depleted squad of eight players, the team faced the challenge of playing seven consecutive 12-minute matches - a tough order of play that tested the squad. Despite only having one substitute, every player rose to the occasion and put in a superb effort from start to finish. There were some wonderful moments of play that reflected the team’s growing cohesion. A highlight was the through-court connection between Lillian and Genevieve, demonstrating vision, timing, and trust. In attack, the team worked hard in the circle trying to find space, applying pressure but struggling to get the ball to our shooters. Tallulah & Camilla’s confidence grew noticeably in defence, with increasingly assured decision-making. While the results did not fall in our favour on this occasion, the scoreboard did not reflect the heart and commitment shown by the team. Their work rate never dipped and they refused to give up in any match. Across the seven matches, Lillian and Genevieve dominated the Player of the Match votes, a testament to their consistent impact and influence on court. Lillian was deservedly awarded POM four times, with Genevieve receiving the accolade in the remaining three matches. It was an afternoon that showcased resilience, teamwork, and developing confidence — qualities that will undoubtedly serve this group of girls well as the season continues with the full strength squad.
