U13 Rugby 7’s v QEGS Horncastle (H) 2.00pm

Match Report

Result: 40 - 20 (8 tries to 4) W

The U13 boys are in full flow of their hockey season, so for them to be able to adapt and jump into rugby 7’s takes some resilience. We opened our 7’s campaign by welcoming Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (QEGS) to the hallowed turf of St Hugh’s. We agreed to play some 7’s and then change things around to allow all players to get as much from the experience as possible. St Hugh's won the toss and opted to receive the kick. The boys came out fired up and it was not long until their captain leading by example went over the white wash for the first score of the game. Both teams were warming nicely, piecing together some great passages of play. St Hugh’s turned over quite a bit of ball through some solid tackling which enabled Joshua to go over for a try. Quick to follow was another 2 by Rory S. QEGS came back in the second half with some well worked tries of their own. This took the score of the first game 4 tries to 3. Eager for more we jumped back into another half of 7’s. Both teams were learning and progressing so much over the afternoon, it was really impressive to see. St Hugh’s moved the ball well into space which gave Rory S another score, shortly followed by Alastair and James who both carried very well. The final half we change things around going to 10 aside to allow for more boys to take to the field. Both teams played exceptionally well, almost cancelling each other out. Then QEGS responded with another score off a set piece and closing the game was a final score for Rory S. Well done to all players, a fantastic and enjoyable afternoon of rugby. Thank you.
