Match Report
Result: L 15 - 10 (3 - 2)
We travelled to Stamford in high ‘festive’ spirits, yes the Christmas songs have already started. We arrived a little tight for time, so Aydin took the team through a quick warm up. The game got underway and we started slowly, but with the ball in hand we looked to be creating a lot of opportunities. The game was evenly matched with Stamford carrying the ball well in the tight and St Hugh’s playing a more expansive game. St Hugh’s spreading the ball wide paid off as Aydin found some space and got across the line for the first points of the game. Not long after this St Hugh’s were building the pressure and with a scrum on the Stamford try line Will L picked the ball from the base and went blind to score our second of the game. Stamford responded with their own try before half time. The second half saw us lose Aydin due to injury, but the St Hugh’s team took this in their stride and lifted each other. The St Hugh’s defence stood strong and we turned over a lot of ball, but were unable to capitalise on this. Stamford got the ball in the 22 and moved it wide to score their second. In the last few minutes of the game the ball was back and forth. It fell well for Stamford and a similar scenario to their second try emerged and they snuck across the line to take the game. Amazing effort from all of the boys involved today. They should be tremendously proud of their performance. Kudos, well done!
