Match Report
Result: L 20 - 40 (4 tries to 8)
This week we welcomed Witham Hall to the St Hugh’s paddock. Always an exciting fixture in the calendar, St Hugh’s were confident following their performance last week against Tranby. Witham Hall won the toss and opted to kick off. Going against our tradition of starting slow, St Hugh’s boys came out firing on all cylinders. Witham Hall seemed unable to react to some strong lines of running and good offloads by St Hugh’s. St Hugh’s took a convincing lead with 3 early tries coming through Rory S, Rory P and Sam H. Witham Hall dusted themselves off and came back at St Hugh’s responding with 3 well executed tries of their own which took us into half time. The game was open for the taking and made for an exciting second half. It was not long until St Hugh’s got over the white wash for the first score of the second half, strong run by George with a good offload for James to finish. Witham Hall came back again and scored another to bring both teams level for the second time in the game. Witham Hall seemed to grow in confidence and a few missed tackles saw them go over for a few more before the full time whistle. A difficult lesson about closing out games, but the boys gave a lot of effort and showed some signs of how good of a team they can be. Well done to the St Hugh’s boys and thank you.
