Result: L 10 - 25 (2 - 5)
On Wednesday 4th October, St Hugh’s Rugby hosted Witham Hall in an U13 rugby game. Witham travelled light with only 11, as is appropriate we agreed to match Witham’s numbers and also as requested that we would do uncontested scrums. The match started well with end to end rugby. Unfortunately, there were a number of handling errors by both teams which slowed the game down. Witham executed a couple of well worked tries in the first half. The St Hugh’s boys took this well and bounced back with two nice tries with some hard straight running and moving the ball into space just before the final whistle, taking the game to two tries each. St Hugh’s made a number of changes to give all the players some game time. The second half, St Hugh’s struggled to finish any of their attacking plays. Witham capitalised on theirs and a few slipped tackles saw them get across the line for a few more scores before the final whistle. St Hugh’s boys played really well, with a lot of players out of position or in new positions. We learn and grow, next stop Netherlands!
